Cruise in style with a new longboard
Skateboarding was born back in the 1950s and 60s as a substitute for surfing. When the surf was flat surfers would take to ‘sidewalk surfing’, as it was known, to get their fill. Longboard or cruiser skateboards are the closest to that pure, surfboard style that originally inspired skateboarding.
As the name suggests these boards are longer than a standard skateboard. Cruiser skateboards are best suited to long rides as they’re more comfortable than a standard board, making them a classic choice for those who want to chill and enjoy the ride.
Longboards are more stable than other skateboards and their softer wheels and flexible trucks make for a more comfortable ride. This makes them ideal for cruising, transportation, cross country, downhill riding and longer street riding. Despite this they are still handy for a range of tricks including hand-paddling, carving, nose-riding and downhill sliding.
The high stability of cruiser skateboards also makes them ideal for beginners. A longboard is easier to stay upright on for new skaters and is also safer due to being well suited to pumping and gyrating propulsion, which don’t require the skater to remove their foot from the board.
Longboards and cruisers aren’t famous for their nimbleness, so, if you want more manoeuvrability, a normal skateboard is better for skatepark riding and tricks.
